Wine Fest Insanity

Bryan and I volunteered to work at the Wine Festival at Virginia Tech on Saturday - he worked it last year and got to stay after his shift and taste the wines for free so we had ulterior motives.

Our job was to hand out the wine glasses as the guests arrived from 11:30-1:30. We were stationed under a somewhat crappy pop-up tent, which was not secured, nestled in the corner of the Alumni Center. We knew rain was imminent so I of course made a comment about the tent blowing away if the wind gets as bad as people were saying.

I'm not one to say 'I told ya so,' but sure enough after we re-boxed all the wine glasses on the table and the wind started gushing, a big woosh came through and picked that darn pop-up tent into the air! Luckily, Bryan was able to grab it before it could get away - only damage done was my potty mouth exclaiming 'Shit!' as I saw the tent take flight. Oops.

If that scene weren't enough, the heavy downpour of rain came through and pounded the crap out of our lame tent. After popping the legs down to make it a midget-sized shelter, pools of water started collecting above and we had to use chairs to dump the buckets of water out so the tent wouldn't collapse on us. What a scene.

Bryan and I huddled under our pint-sized tent, watching for feet pass by - yes, people still came out for their wine! I would too if I paid $20! Fortunately, the guy taking pictures of the event brought us each a glass of a fabulous sweet white wine to ease the uncomfortable, soggy situation we were in. It worked.

Shortly after we finished our free bubbly, our friend Keri graced us with her presence and bought a bottle to share until our shift was up. The three of us were quite a sight - sipping wine and passing out glasses to the brave patrons who noticed we were under there.

The rest of the day was somewhat a blur. I managed to splatter mud on the front of my white shorts while Bryan managed to splatter mud all over the back of his legs, shorts and white linen shirt. It took 4 washings to get all the mud out!

We ended the night with healthy pizza and beer at PK's and somehow got home safely around 8pm... or maybe it was earlier? I drank quite a bit and I'm grateful Bryan was able to get us home safe. The poor dogs were upset we forgot to feed them until close to 9pm. Whoops.

I think there was some hot-tubbing when we got home, too... That hot tub has grown on me.

So all-in-all, an exciting Saturday in the 'Burg. Photos will accompany this post as soon as I figure out where I put my camera...
